The upper reaches of many rivers and streams, like Alaknanda and the Bhagirathi (Ganga) have foaming white-waters that have been successfully tried for River-running and rafting. The stretch of the Ganga provides ample opportunities for professionals as well as beginners for experiencing the thrills and fun of rafting on its water. The source of the Ganga is at the Gaumukh whose melting waters form the Bhagirathi River. The Bhagirathi flows approx. 320 km through spectacular scenery until it reaches the confluence of the Alaknanda river at Devprayag. Most of the stretch from Devprayag to Rishikesh, on a 3 days trip encounters rapids of Grade II, III and IV. The trip provides excellent opportunity for a visit of the holy town of Ganges and overnight stay on the white sand of the river in safari camps.
